The building

In the heart of Genoa's old town, within one of the oldest and most history-laden urban settlements in Europe, a palazzo of extraordinary architectural richness is preparing for a new season.

The building preserves construction evidence dating back to the Middle Ages and tells of centuries of layers, extensions and rebuilding. It has passed through different eras and uses: from its first residential purpose to the nineteenth-century adaptations, up to the most recent period of occupation, which left tangible marks but also a living story of participation and urban change.

The finest details

A visible account of the building's history

The palazzo holds an architectural heritage of extraordinary value, revealed through a careful reading of its layers.

Vaults, stucco work and frescoed surfaces bear witness to a succession of eras and decorative campaigns: in places, the overlapping paint layers let older traces show through, turning every room into a visible account of the building's history.

Of particular value are the coffered wooden ceilings with painted motifs, together with the nineteenth-century elements that enrich the reception rooms. Marble columns, bases and parapets, moulded cornices and decorations define a rare and authentic whole, in which the solidity of Genoese architecture converses with the refinement of the historic finishes.

The conservation restoration

Preserving and enhancing every element of value

The restoration project addresses the complexity of the palazzo in constant dialogue with all the heritage authorities, through painstaking historical analysis, survey and restoration.

The building will be brought up to the latest standards of safety, energy efficiency and living comfort, with discreetly integrated technical systems and sustainable construction solutions. The intervention gives the palazzo back a vital role in the city: it will house fifteen apartments of different sizes and types, designed to converse with the historic setting and to offer contemporary, functional living spaces.

Unique interiors

The contemporary embraces history

Frescoed ceilings and restored vaults live alongside essential furnishings, natural light and warm materials: wood, marble, fabrics.

The historic ceiling heights become mezzanines and walk-in wardrobes; the top-floor terraces open onto the rooftops and domes of the city. Every apartment is designed to be lived in today without giving up what the palazzo has to tell.
